Top Sea Side Dining Spots in Cape Town South Africa

By Tori Maltby

As a born and raised CapeTownian, I take my sea side dining very seriously and I get very angry when restaurants do not take full advantage of their amazing location.

I’m not going to go into too much detail with each of my choices and I’m going to leave the critiquing to the critics. I believe that with any and all of these the proof is in the pudding and you need to “Sea” for yourself.

With that being said, here are MY top sea side dining venues for the hungry traveler: (In no particular order)

Wafu

Wakame / Wafu:

2 amazing restaurants in one. Same building, similar menu, same outstanding view. Whether you are looking for a trendy after work cocktails spot to watch the sunset, a laid back snack in the sun or a fancy special occaision dinner this venue offers it all. The food at both these restaurants is incredible, with Wafu being a little more casual and snacky but just as gourmet and delicious as Wakame. My favorites by far are the sushi and the Crispy Fried Calamari with Hoi Sin, Coriander and Lime.

Caprice

Caprice:

This little space is there for you no matter what time of day it is. From amazing breakfasts to boozy lunches and dinners which turn into an incredible party. Caprice gives you palm trees and culinary pleasure no matter what you are looking for. My meal of choice is the Bacon, Avo and Brie sandwhich but if I ate burgers this would be my go to spot. (Everybody raves about them and they look incredible!) Right on the CampsBay strip, caprice is a sunset watching, cocktail drinking institution which turns into a thriving party later on. Any trip to Cape Town is not complete without a visit to Caprice.

Dunes

Dunes:

A HoutBay gem. Laid back, on the beach, kids and dogs welcome, Dunes welcomes everybody with open arms. Fabulous for an impromptu meal after a walk on the beach. Friendly service and great food mixed together with a great atmosphere. Meal of choice – Nachos or Calamari.

Chapmans Peak

Chapmans Peak Hotel:

Established over 25 years ago ChapmansPeak is loved by the locals and tourists alike. With mounds of history ChapmansPeak offers the best in Portuguese steak and seafood, all served in huge cast iron pans. Simple goodness at its best. What do I eat there? The calamari – (yes I have a thing for Calamari…)
